LEADERSHIP IMPROVEMENT REQUIRED IN NEW ZEALAND
There are many examples of things going wrong. In most cases it can be directly attributed to Bad Leadership as a direct consequence of a lack of Courage, Compassion, Humility & Honesty.
Democracy & Accountability
Democracy begins with the appointment of Mayor & Councillors on the understanding that once appointed they will personally & actively communicate with all in the community discussing future plans that include the costs and risks.
Also it is expected that those appointed will implement and monitor performance with the Chief Executive on the understanding that should an agreed level of failure occur then a replacement would be sought.
Revenue & Debt
Council revenue is obtained through residential and commercial Rates and provision of chargeable services (ie. Zoo's). Council also charges developers for the provision of residential and commercial infrastructure (ie three waters) together with community facilities such as parks and gardens associated with the development.
Affordable Housing & three (or 4) Waters
Definition: Affordable housing refers to housing units that are affordable by that section of society whose income is below the median household income ($55k to 75k in New Zealand).
In January 2019 it was reported that New Zealand house prices are among the most unaffordable in the world, although Christchurch Household income to house price multiplier is 5.4, Auckland is 9 times.
